What We Do

Akilah Media works with you to determine the appropriate style and the right level of editing for your document. Below are definitions of the levels of editing and the services we perform.

Proofreading. We read your completed publication, and we correct errors in spelling and punctuation.
Copyediting. Copyediting comes in two flavors—light and heavy. In light copyediting we correct errors of spelling, punctuation, and usage and make your document conform to the appropriate style. In heavy copyediting we do all those things, and we also rewrite awkward sentences and recast confusing paragraphs.
Substantive editing. We rewrite and reorganize as necessary to make your document clear, understandable, and useful.
Writing. We use your background materials to write the publication you need for the audience you want to address.

We frequently use the style guides of the organizations listed below. If your work requires adherence to some other publication style, we will follow it.

In addition to writing and editing, Akilah Media offers the following services.
Research. We work with you to develop a research plan, then we search the Internet and other online sources for the information you need. We have extensive research experience in a number of fields.
Desktop Publishing. We produce camera-ready copy for flyers, brochures, programs, agendas, newspaper ads, resumes, reports, books, and other publications.
